Consumers Keen To Revamp Their Homes

Revamp Homes

There is no shortage of home improvement products on the market for consumers to take advantage of. For example, those who want to stock up on cheap curtains can simply head online and take their pick from a wide selection of products. The same applies to cheap bedding.

It seems as though demand for items like this, as well as other home goods, may be high at present. Research conducted by Gocompare.com has highlighted Britons’ eagerness to revamp their properties. Many of the individuals it polled had undertaken projects around their houses or flats over the last three years, while a considerable number were also planning refurbishments over the coming three years.

Some of those questioned had added extra bedrooms to their abodes, or intended to do so. These individuals may well need additional curtains and bedding to complete the spaces. It was also revealed that six per cent of respondents had converted their attics over the last three years, while 11 per cent intended to do so over the coming three years. The most popular revamps were new kitchens and bathrooms.

Anyone considering making changes to their properties may wish to take note of a warning issued by Gocompare.com. The comparison site revealed that of the people who had undertaken major home improvements over the last three years, 43 per cent had failed to inform their home insurance providers. This could have rendered their policies invalid.

Commenting on this issue, Gocompare.com’s home insurance spokesperson Mark Greening said: “Undertaking a home renovation or extension not only helps to improve or increase your living space, but can add to the value of your property and your fixtures and fittings. For example, new kitchen cabinets and worktops are usually installed around a new cooker and other domestic appliances – increasing both the value of the property’s rebuilding costs and household contents. So, whether you are planning an extension, installing a new kitchen or other major renovation, you should consult your home insurer before you start work so that you can review your sum insured and make sure your plans don’t invalidate your cover.”

He added: “When updating your home, it’s likely that you’ll invest in new furniture and furnishings, potentially increasing the value of your household contents, so you should speak to your insurer to make sure that you have adequate cover for your new possessions.”

Mr Greening also noted that if people are using tradesmen to undertake work for them, they should make sure that they are qualified and registered with a recognised governing body. After all, most home insurance policies do not cover tradesmen or their work, so it is important that they have their own cover.

While some home improvements are complex and require a lot of time, planning and money, many enhancements can be completed in no time and on a small budget. For example, people can purchase cheap curtains and bedding with minimal hassle and expense to boost the value of home improvements.. By heading online, they can peruse a range of options and ordering the products take a matter of moments.
